Berlin Blackout
The things we take for granted
We ignore them every day
Giving them no second thought
Until they go away

When lights go out, no water runs
The land is dark without the sun
Indecision rules the land
And anarchy is close at hand

We will then treasure what was before
As winter chills you to the core
And scratches with his icy claw
Upon your frozen door

What are colours to a blind man?
What is music to the deaf?
Who cares for it does not concern
Until it us, also affects

The things that are important
Seem so insignificant and small
A fire, a light, some warmth at night
And a lantern at nightfall

No telephone, no internet
Just everywhere dark silhouettes
No supermarkets, trams or buses
Just silence where there once was bustle

The Hospitals once shiny bright
Now operate in the darkest night
The old, the young the frail and frightened
Are scared and no one can enlighten

The blackout comes and with it so
The fear of terrorism grows
Some say that this is only the start
Of attempts to rip the state apart

The lights go on we soon forget
The ever present insidiuos threat
And once again we do ignore
That which was sorely missed before

How fragile is this world of ours
Underneath electric stars
Interconnected, dependent, frail
On systems that will ultimately fail
